Hi! I’m Madhurya, a Product Design student at Parsons School of Design in New York City, also pursuing a dual degree in Psychology at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts.
My design practice is deeply rooted in Psychology, which I often turn to for theoretical grounding. I believe good design stems from a deep understanding of human thought, behavior, and interaction with the world. Intentionality at every stage of the process is essential—it ensures that the final product is not only intuitive and easy to use but also emotionally resonant and compelling.
Creatively, I draw a lot of inspiration from the world around me. I look at nature mainly, having used Biomimicry as a constant source of knowledge ever since high school. I believe many design problems have already been solved by nature—we just need to observe, learn, and apply those strategies in innovative ways.
I’m also inspired by traditional crafts such as origami and crochet. Being from India, I’ve grown up admiring the rich, intricate and carefully made crafts—from textiles and carvings to vibrant paintings and beautiful pottery. These colors, textures, and details often find their way into my work, helping me tell stories through form and material.
I’m especially passionate about designing for inclusivity. From personal experience, I know how frustrating it is to use products that assume an able-bodied user. I believe the responsibility should lie with the product—not the user—to adapt and flex to diverse needs.
Play is another key element in my work. When a product is joyful to use, it becomes something people want to return to. And as a designer, I think that’s one of the best outcomes I can hope for.
